Culinary Conundrum

We paid an evening visit to Mum and she had only been able to eat a bit. No wonder - the food they are bringing her is absolute rubbish. There was a strawberry mousse and a tomato-cream soup. Considering she isn't great with lactose and she has heaps of sores in her mouth, I don't know how they are thinking she will be able to eat this. And the answer is - they aren't thinking. The system is in place and unless conscious attention is drawn to it, diet is not considered.

We spoke with the staff and they were 100% in agreement that what she was brought was inconsistent with what she needs and they made a note to have a dietician visit on Friday so we can work at getting her things she can absorb that will be helpful. The staff are absolutely amazing - when they say they will check back in ten minutes, they are back in ten minutes; they are very considerate and helpful. There are angels working in this field, for sure.

But this demonstrates the fact that the squeeky wheel gets the grease. What about those who don't have family members or friends to complain on their behalf, or those who don't think to question things that the establishment should be aware of. The disconnect within the system is sad to witness and experience, especially when lives are at stake.

I've brought Mum some Aloe Juice with various supplements to help heal her internally and it was going down with ease. I'll be on the lookout for some healthy high-protein supplements in the hopes of getting her better nourished.

Good Morning Marika and all,
You're quite right to intervene, Mark. Hospitals have had reputations for bad food forever. For some unknown reason, nutrition has never been a high priority in treating the ill. We're so happy that you can step in and provide Marika with healthy nutritional sources. Can she take homeopathic or vitamin supplements at this point? We hope today is a good one for Marika and all of you. Much Love, Susan

Hi Mark & Marika,
Yes, food is important. It needs to look good, taste good, & slip down easily--as she probably doesn't feel much like eating at this point. Do you know about high-protein supplements like Ensure? It comes in many flavours. The chocolate one, which tastes like a choc milkshake, is supposed to be good. I don't think they contain lactose, but you can check the label.
It is great that you are back in Victoria, Mark. I am sure that it is a help to both Marika & David.
Much love to all,
Barbara.

Hey all! I have finally logged onto the new and improved blog... great work Mark!
How are you holding out, David & Vicky? I'm glad the room change worked out and I hope the care continues to improve with direction from you that you should NOT have had to make! You must all be more comfortable now.
Do you want more ads for the Goward House Show starting Sept. 26? I could bring some in and this time not take them into your room to be "contaminated" so people can take them home....I have all your paintings here and will hang them at GH but I need to know if you have changed your mind on any to be submitted there first, including Mt. Baker. No rush, but the curators want to make up the list next week.
Hope the nourishment makes the difference for you!
Call when you feel like it and I will pop over any time you need something: backrubs free!!!! Hugs to all of you, Bonny Myers.
