Mum's voice is doing much better today - there was the strength that we had heard earlier in the week before the soreness came back with a vengeance. She has a new slurpy toy, the kind of suction thing that dentists use to pull out your saliva, so that is helping her remove some of the buildup without taxing her throat so much. As a result, she is speaking more clearly - and putting her voice to good use, as Dad wryly noted. Gyongyi is still there and taking wonderful care of her, and her cousin Robby will be visiting from Toronto on Wednesday.
She did have her first radiation treatment this morning - the doctors are quite certain this will help improve her quality of life by holding back the impact of the malignancy in her spinal fluid. No side effects yet, and they are certainly not expected to be anywhere as strong as those of the chemo she underwent over 10 days ago that she is still recovering from.
It is challenging for Vicky and me to be so far away for a couple of days - we had always stated that Victoria was close enough but far enough, but at the moment it's too far. We are looking forward to being able to visit on Thursday. We did read her the newer blog comments over the phone since Dad's technophobia might supersede that of some of the supposedly technologically challenged folks on this site, and she was very happy to hear them.

Hey Marika
Jello with a scotch chaser - yum!!
I am off to Yoho on Thursday and a group of us will be going to Lake O'Hara so I will be thinking of you as I gaze at the serene lake and upon the towering and majestic peaks. Will send some healing vibes from on high so be ready to catch them around noon on Friday - lol. Was talking to Si Transken yesterday and our second book is taking shape - Un/complicated play/ers. We have decided to dedicate the book to you as you have been so instrumental in defining "work hard, play harder". Hope this meets with your ok. Mind it might not get published right away so we shall see ... Continued good wishes and healthy healing - it would be very nice to see you in October. Love Lynn (Box)xo
Dearest Marika,
Although we haven't met in person, I feel I know you well through our spirit to spirit connections and the many healings we have shared.
I've been reading through this blog post that Mark has set up and can see that you are very blessed to have such a huge support system of friends, artists and family around you.
Much love and blessings to you and your family and continued hellos and healing energy as you experience each day.

And as to lip colour - do you remember Revlon's Silver City Pink and Fire & Ice Red? I don't know if they still make them now, but I know they did not too long ago. Oh - yes and the shiny peel off eyeliner - easy to remove!!! LOL LOL
Dear Marika,
It is good to hear that you get better. In a few days even your throat problem will be gone and you can leave the bed. I think of you so much that you are with me all the time. We all do.
Yesterday we celebrated Melker's 2nd birthday. To really celebrate the day he had got one of those autumn flus, high fever, but he was in good spirits. We had cake with two burning candles for him to blow out. I think Stina sent you some pictures, both of the children and also Boo with the children on his little tractor(?). That was from the summer, he used to drive them down to the lake and they enjoyed it very much. You could se on the photos that he enjoyed it as much as they.
I am sure you have good company with Gyongyi. Please give my best to her and to Dave, and to yourself a great big hug.
Lots of love
Franci
